TOWARDS ENSURING FOOD SECURITY IN ONDO STATE
The 1996 World Food Summit (WFS) described food security as when everyone, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe
and nutritious food that meets various dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. Suffice to note is the fact that there is no generally acceptable definition of food security, as scholars and agricultural experts have continued to present descriptions of food security based on their perception, views and exposure.
From the foregoing, it can be said that food security is hinged on the following indices:
i. Physical availability of food: this addresses the “production” or “supply side” of food security and it is premised on the level of food production, stock levels and net trade.
ii. Economic and physical access to food: this deals with access to available food, income, expenditure, market and prices in achieving food security objectives.
