Ondo State Head of Service, Dare Aragbaiye has assured that the public service will continue to live up to expectations despite challenges occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
OSRC’s Shola Ilesanmi reports that Mr Aragbaiye during his second quarterly interface with the public service Change Ambassadors in Akure, emphasized the need for more collaborative efforts to guarantee the effective implementation of the Ondo Service Improvement Programme (ODSIP).
Also in his remarks, Ondo State workers have been assured that diligent and hardworking staff will be rewarded just as three workers of the Ministry of Works were given accelerated promotion following their exemplary services to the state.
He urged them to carry out their activities with diligence and dedication with the promise that these attributes will make them to be spotted.
Aragbaiye thanked them for their support to the state government by maintaining a seamless operation even as officers on lower cadres were asked to stay home due to COVID-19.
The secretary, Reform Office at the office of the Head of Service, Gbenga Akingbasote said that the essence of the programme was to teach the participants on how to carry out improvement of some processes that needed such an attention in their MDAs.
Delivering a lecture at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary, Pension Transitional Department, Mr. Tope Kolawole said that his department handles pension transition for intending retirees in a bid to make access to their retirement benefits less cumbersome.
He explained that the current administration was determined to ensure that retirees are not put under stress In the process of receiving their benefits which had prompted the current head of service to call a meeting of the stakeholders.
He said the forum then came up with a reform agenda that could ease retirement processes especially for those who do not live in the state capital as they could now also access pension forms at their local government areas.
“A teacher had to produce 27 documents before now. When we met and deliberated, it was reduced from 27 to 15. While that of the civil servants was reduced from 25 to 11”
Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Mr Bayo Felix charged the change agents to share what they learnt at the meeting with their colleagues.
Also delivering a paper was Allen Idowu Owolabi, Director, Direct Labour Engineering Unit on the framework for reduction in the cost of road construction.
He noted that the budget of road infrastructure takes a huge chunk out of the state’s fund.
He also informed the gathering that road constructions have been reduced due to the financial constraints brought about by COVID- 19.
He disclosed that the mode of payment is now mostly reimbursements for contractors as against the former mobilisation which he said has encouraged timely delivery and quality projects.
He hinted that the government was able to save a whopping sum of 150 million naira as it began to involve the in house engineers in road maintenance.
